Financial Asset Management Analysis after College
How To Get Into The Field
As someone who went to college for hotel administration and real estate, I really have been lucky to find a job that allows me to use both of my degrees on a daily basis. Often I even find myself referring back to my college notes and text books that I have saved, as the material that we covered back in college is directly applicable to my everyday job. In my role, there really is no such thing as an average day. I may be reviewing monthly financial reports, asset positioning or market data in the morning and then may be looking at the legal issues or compensation plan of one of the management companies in the afternoon. You never really know.

What Do You Really Do?
Since September, I have been working for a private hotel investment firm which has invested over $3.0 billion in equity capital on behalf of HRH Prince Alwaleed’s Kingdom Holding Company, a multi-national investment conglomerate. Kingdom’s lodging investments include significant ownership interests in Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Fairmont Raffles Hotels International and various other luxury properties including the Fairmont San Francisco, Four Seasons Hotel George V and the Plaza Hotel.
Pros/Cons of Your Job
Overall, I would say the main thing that attracted me to this job is the variety of the role – its not very common for an analyst to see hotels from both the asset and management company perspective. There seems to always be something new coming up or something new to look into. The second thing was the people that I work with – everyone went to the Hotel School at Cornell – pretty cool. You don’t see that very often.

The Life of a College Grad In New York City

College Grad New York City Apartment

What's it Like to Live Here?
This summer marks my second year in New York City. Bottom line is, the city is amazing – bars, restaurants, shows – pretty much whatever you want. If you can’t find it in New York City, you can’t find it anywhere.

The city is a great place for a new College Grad as not only is there so much to do, but there are tons of other college grads and classmates to meet up with after work. Rent is very expensive, but the lifestyle can't be beat.

How Did I End Up Here?
I grew up in Ramsey, NJ, a pretty small suburb about 45 minutes out of NYC. Like most kids in Ramsey, I went to Ramsey HS graduated in 2007 and made my way to Cornell. After Cornell, I kept on following the pack and made my way to NYC with 2 of my fraternity brothers. Been living here ever since.
My Set-Up
I just moved into my own one bedroom apartment flat in New York City. Overall it's great. Check out my apartment photo gallery tour for pics.
